I've done this for at least the last three years if not longer. In fact, it has been an annual ritual of mine to install the latest Maven plugin and see if it finally "just works" for me. However, the Maven integration is just really bad from my experience. While I can't claim to know how to use everything in it, I can navigate around it pretty good and can pump out some code using it.
